We attended the shows, we saw the backstage beauty, now here’s what you need to know about the trends at the New York Fashion Week fall 2013 shows.
THE BIG TRENDS: Tomboy, sporty chic, masculine / feminine. Grunge. Space-age. So dive in to your man’s closet–you may need to borrow a few things (below from left to right: Hervé Léger, Charlotte Ronson, Nicole Miller, 3.1 Phillip Lim, DKNY).
THE COLOR STORY: Black, white, and lipstick red were huge (Reem Acra is an example). Other colors of note: emerald green, lapis blue.
WHAT TO KEEP: It’s okay to keep your oxblood pieces–they’ll still be relevant for fall. If you want to mix it up, add a bright right for a tonal punch.
TRENDS TO TRY NOW: Pants layered under dresses as seen in Monique Lhuillier and Hervé Léger. Not feeling as daring? Top your look off with a baseball cap.
OUR FAVORITE SHOWS: Misha Nonoo. 3.1 Phillip Lim. Rodebjer. Monique Lhuillier.
THE BEAUTY: Clean, bare faces. Extreme cat eye liner was used at many shows including Charlotte Ronson (left), and Ralph Rucci. Lips were mostly bare, so ditch the dark lipstick from last fall. Instead, opt for a wine-stained look like at Rachel Zoe (right).
THE HAIR: Sleek, minimalist hair parted down the middle, ranging from stick straight to “just had sex” waves.
THE NAILS. It’s still okay to go overboard with the nail trend, but clean, minimalist designs were cropping up all over. Rachel Zoe went a little anti nail art with a nude, almost clear polish and Kaelen (below) did a sleek matte black with glossy french tips.
DESIGNER TO WATCH: We loved the natural glamour of Rodebjer, a Swedish brand based in New York. And in case you’re wondering, we’re pretty sure it’s pronounced Ro-de-burr.
