THE SHOW: Alexander Wang Fall / Winter 2013
KEY WORDS: Blurred, outerwear, gray-scale, moody.
THE LOOK: Some futuristic version of Joan of Arc meets Eskimo. Inspired by the sport of boxing, it looks like these women were certainly dressed to battle the weather outside at fashion week, with knitted caps under high collared hoods, and above-the-elbow fur mittens. Overall, the collection was an attempt to contrast the angularity of his last collection with a more rounded softness in fabrics and silhouettes.
THE TEXTILES: Wang was all about texture in textiles. We saw the usual fur and leather, some beautiful silk/wool blends, and different techniques utilized on mohair to give it a furrier appearance.
THE STYLING: Hair was mostly hidden behind headwear, but when it was visible, it took the form of the slicked back ponytail. Models wore slouchy knit legwarmers bunched around the ankle –if they stood any taller they would interfere with the proportions of the many dropped waist silhouettes. Handbags were a two in one –like Siamese twins.
THE LINGERING QUESTION: After this show, what can we expect Wang to be showing for Balenciaga at Paris Fashion Week?
