It’s new music Tuesday and we’re excited about the release of ”The Heist,” an album by Seattle-area musicians Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Released today, the album is already number one on iTunes. These two rappers bring a refreshing mission to the table: using their rhymes to provide positive messages to listeners. Thus, the subject matter of the album covers everything from inspiring others through alcohol sobriety, equality and love for all people, and living a life appreciative of art.
But the duo also have a passion for fashion. One of the album’s key highlights is the silly and catchy track “Thrift Shop,” which is all about shopping secondhand around Seattle (though insider information tells us that Macklemore has been known to shop the Seattle H&M mens department for v-neck t-shirts). The accompanying music video shows Macklemore and Lewis out and about in the city of Seattle at vintage and second hand shops as well as the infamous Capitol Hill Bar the Unicorn. See the video posted in our Now & Then feature here.
“The Heist” has also received much publicity for its song “Same Love” featuring Mary Lambert, which illustrates the musicians’ pro-same-sex marriage mentality. Watch the amazing video:
If you are looking for a fun new album to explore that is diverse in its content and highlights an incredibly talented songwriting duo, definitely check out “The Heist.”
