If you were up early and going enough to catch the BCBG Max Azria show on Thursday morning, you were definitely rewarded by one of the best collections yet from NYFW. White, cream, coral, and black were the primary color palate. Leather and lace added texture to an otherwise lightweight and flowing textile array. Bodices were pieced and layered and stood out as the key focal points of most of the garments. Loose silhouettes with longer hemlines dominated. All in all, the brand took the hard and soft contradiction to a new level, juxtaposing leather bondage and harnesses with crepe gowns and lace interlays in what ended up being a gorgeous and interesting show. Femme fatale after femme fatale graced the runway, proving that femininity can simultaneously be edgy and ethereal. Overall, the collection is a huge hit because nothing could better encapsulate the zeitgeist of the modern woman. We all want to dress ourselves inside and out in a way that shows we are powerful without losing the certain softness that makes us women. With clothing like BCBG Max Azria, we can dress ourselves outwardly in this way, which will help give us the confidence to inwardly adopt this mentality.
