The whirlwind group of days that is New York Fashion Week is over, and fall fashion is in full stride. But hold up! Just because we’re on to the next, that doesn’t mean we can’t sit back and reminisce about the good times we had together with the city that never sleeps. From our favorite trend (black and white!), to our favorite show, to our favorite text message between editors, here is our NYFW recap.
THE TREND // Black and white. Spring is a time when nature comes back to life and breathes color back into the world – but not if the designers showing at NYFW having anything to do about it. This trend was best encapsulated by BCBG Max Azria, shown below. Other trends of note: bondage, a la Fifty Shades (also seen at BCBG), prints, and sporty.
OUR FAVORITE SHOW // Rachel Zoe. What can we say? Zoe’s show was just so effortlessly cool with its breezy but glam fabrics, un-fussy hair, and subdued hues. And we’re dying for one of her fanny packs!
TEXTING WITH JENESEQUA // Our favorite text from the week was this frantic text from one editor to another: “Omg. Stuck in my elevator, then went wrong way on subway. If I don’t get to Rachel Zoe in the next 5 mins I am going to jump off a bridge.” Fortunately, we made it, and the show turned out to be one of the best.
THE BEAUTY // Nonoo SS 13. With beautiful, luminescent skin at the forefront, we loved the fresh faces at Nonoo. The recipe of a healthy glow, minimal flicks of eyeliner, and orangey-red lips proved to be a winning combination. The hair was a winner too. Photo by Melissa Middleton.
NAILS // Kaelen SS 13. For the nails, butter LONDON’s Global Colour Ambassador Katie Hughes went for a high contrast “distressed nail” using black as the base, and a bespoke nude khaki layered in jagged strokes towards the bed. Photo credit.
THE MODEL + HAIR // Chloe Norgaard, the girl with the rainbow hair. We saw her walking in the Nicole Miller show, and she definitely made an impression. Photo credit.
FRONT-ROW FASHION TREND // In keeping with one of the biggest looks for fall, fashion week attendees like Allison Williams and Hilary Rhoda donned burgundy dresses (with leather details to boot!).
THE SARTORIALIST SHOT // For the street style obsessed, the first destination to soothe your cravings is of course, The Sartorialist. We spotted this black and white photo of Mary Kate Steinmiller walking in her flowy gown near Lincoln Center.
THE LESSON LEARNED // Be direct. Go after what you want. Fashion editor Shannon Ables learned this during her New York Fashion Week this year, likening it to being direct in your approach to hailing a cab. You can read Shannon’s other lessons learned here.
While we’re still on the topic of learning, JENESEQUA reader and Facebook fan Nicola Stewart said her favorite thing learned from NYFW is this: “drink enough rosé and you too can think it’s appropriate to talk to Jared Leto.” Ooooh, we love our saucy readers.
See you next fashion week!
