This week’s style retrospective features the one and only turban. Both exotic and decadent, the westernized version of this head covering has captivated golden age Hollywood film sirens to current designers like Anna Sui and Prada.
The turban surpassed the status of a fleeting trend in the glamorous 20s, 40s and 60s when it was worn on the cover of Vogue, on stars like Sophia Loren, and on fashionable women everywhere. However, westerners have been sporting the turban for much longer than the 20th century. Did you know that Marie Antoinette frequently wore them? Let them wear turbans!
Today, more and more turbans (and turbands) are hitting the runway and in effect, our Pinterest boards. The most notable influencers include Prada’s 2007 Spring RTW collection, SJP in 2010’s Sex and the City 2, and Anna Sui’s 2012 Spring RTW collection.
