Last week, we celebrated the 66th anniversary of the bikini. Since French engineer Louis Réard and fashion designer Jacques Heim made waves with this shockingly risqué two piece in 1946, swimwear seems to shrink every season.
While today’s suits are definitely too small for 40s, 50s and even 60s standards of decency, high waist bikinis and sexy one pieces are dominating the runway. Designers like Herve Leger are showcasing one pieces with daring cutouts and other designers like Norma Kamali, Marc Jacobs, and Peter Som are all about the flirty, retro-inspired high waist and bandeau suits.
However you cut it, itsy bitsy string bikinis are still in full force, but suits with more fabric are in the midst of a strong comeback. Do you think it will last?
