Tying a tie: it’s a ten second trick that every lady should know how to do. However, a recent poll of our JNSQ women revealed that unless you wore a uniform to primary school, you are likely one of the 15.5 out of 20 who admit helplessness when it comes to a crisp, clean knot! Thus, we have “The Four in Hand Knot” tutorial, aimed at you and your man. This classic knot, which is acceptable for any occasion and simple to learn, is the finishing touch for your date’s ensemble as you two hit the town for this season’s festivities.

1. Take the tie and place it around your man’s neck. Seams facing in. Wide end on your left (his right).
2. Cross the wide end of the tie over the other.
3. Bring the wide end (in your left hand) back over and then under the narrow end over the top of the center.
4. Pull wide end up then down through center with wide end still on left side.
5. Tie should look like the diagram. Check your steps.
6. Take wide end in you left hang and move to the left over the narrow end.
7. Close up.
8. Take the wide end in your left hand under loop, then back down through the loose knot. Use one hand to pull down the wide end.
9. Tighten and adjust “knot” accordingly. Voila! You just tied a tie.
