London is my favorite city in the world, for so many reasons; the architecture, the museums, the fashion, the restaurants, the gardens….I could go on forever. I was fortunate enough to grown up just fifteen miles away from this beautiful city, but since leaving England 4 years ago, it has become an exotic destination for me to visit.
What to pack
Because of the weather, I always pack basics and layering pieces along with a few key on-trend items. For a trip at this time of year, I would select some easy wearing items like a maxi dress, floral scarf and cardigan for transition from day to night. For an evening out, I would opt for juxtaposing lace with leather and add some killer heels for a night on the town at Kitts. When packing light, I opt for solid colored pieces, and add interest in the form of texture or pattern on accessories.
Where to eat, sleep and shop
Having spent years living and working in London, I could write a book on all my favorite places to visit, but this is a summary of my top picks.
Eat
1. The Electric in Notting Hill is one part private members’ club, one part cool and hip restaurant, open to the public. The Brasserie on the lower floor is open all day and into the early hours of the morning; they serve great coffee, the best eggs benedict in the city, and they mix up delicious and creative cocktails by night.
2. The Wolseley is housed in one of the most gorgeous buildings in London which was built in 1921, originally as a car showroom. The atmosphere is formal and sophisticated and the butter and garlic prawns are to die for. A word of advice to ensure a delicious meal here: reserve in advance.
3. Crazy Homies is a Tom Conran restaurant serving delicious Mexican food inspired by street vendors throughout Mexico. The interior and the atmosphere here is what makes the experience so fun. There are neon lights and chintz everywhere you look, but beware, this place is small so you may have to wait – but the wait will be worth it.
4. Hummingbird Bakery will sell you the best cupcake you have ever tasted, guaranteed. There is always a long line at the weekend at the Portobello Road location (with good reason) so go during the week if possible, and my personal recommendation would be the red velvet.

Haymarket Hotel The Haymarket is part of the Firmdale Hotels Group which have fabulous collection of hotels in London and New York. The interior of the hotel is designed by Kit Kemp in a bright, modern English style, using lots of color and texture, fun fabrics and beautiful antiques. It is located perfectly for shopping, dining and sightseeing.
Shop
I am a big fan of the markets in London because I believe some of the best fashion, food and antiques in the world can be found at the following three places, so make sure you add them to your London agenda.
Portobello Market in Notting Hill (West London) is world famous for amazing vintage clothing, handmade jewelry and European antiques at great prices.
Spitalfields Market in East London offers an exciting mix of vintage clothing, antiques and designer fashion. It is also surrounded by some of the best Indian restaurants in London.
Borough Market is a feast, literally. Based by the Thames in South East London, it is home to gourmet food from around the world, so whether you are looking for pork belly, tulips from Amsterdam, or organic lettuce, this is the place to come for all things food and floral.
